So here it is, Stuart Semple’s response to Pantone’s colour of the year 2023.

Every year, the PANTONE corporation declares the colour of the year, and manufacturers, fashion designers, homeware makers, textile artists and retailers jump to join the trend. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. 

IT’S TIME BIG COLOUR LEARNED THEY CAN’T CONTROL OUR COLOUR CHOICES!

As you know Stuart Semple has a big problem with Big-Colour. The corporates that control and dictate how we can use colour. 

PANTONE already turned the screw on creators when they announced they were pay-walling the colour palette in Adobe software, holding the colours ransom and making creators pay a couple of hundred dollars a year to continue to access them!

Stuart Semple responded by launching FREETONE a completely free plugin for Adobe that enables users to continue using and matching the colours they love at no cost. 

Now Pantone has waded into PINK territory by declaring their bland salmon magenta, the colour of 2023. 

Stuart has already liberated the VIVA meh-genta pigment.

Mix it with water to make a watercolour, linseed oil to make an oil paint, or Stuart Semple’s Superbase to make a super-matte acrylic.

This is a super black micronized pigment by Stuart Semple. It is exceptionally lightfast. 

This is the 1.0 BLACK pigment that was originally released as as part of the beta version during development of Stuart’s BLACK.

IMPORTANT

BLACK 1.0 pigment is NOT bindable with water! (This is different from all Stuart's other powder colours). You can't just add water to make it into a paint. To use it you will need to mix it with a binder or a base of your choice.

It will mix with linseed oil to create oil paint or your choice of acrylic medium. 

It was originally designed to work with Stuart’s own Super Base - if you are looking to create a super matte, super flat paint. You can order Super Base HERE

We strongly suggest that you watch this youtube video in which Stuart explains how to use this powder with his base:

 HOW TO USE WITH SUPER BASE

1. Squeeze out some super base onto a mixing surface, palette or plate
2. Spoon in the powder mixing slowly until it becomes so lumpy you can't possibly add in any more
3. Add a few drops of water and stir
4. Keep adding water (slowly and carefully) until you get the flow you want
5. Use it like a paint

This stuff gets everywhere! Be careful before you know it your whole house and life will be stained black! Open it carefully be sensible.

It’s non toxic but please don’t get it in your eyes or swallow any. Keep it away from your mouth!

THIS IS THE BEST NATURAL GLITTER IN THE WORLD.

The majority of glitters are made from plastics which give an artificial look when they reflect light. Diamond Dust is different as it is made from tiny flakes of glass, when these reflect light it achieves a unique diamond-like effect.

Stuart's Diamond Dust is different! Over the last decade he has been collaborating with an industrial chemical company (they normally use these glass flakes to re-enforce concrete for building coatings). There is nothing like this substance available anywhere to the art community.

Unlike normal diamond dust, Stuart's 'super-shards' are larger and in random, irregular shapes meaning they reflect more light from more angles.

Stuart has used the highest grade glass possible which means is is almost perfectly clear (99.8% clarity if you want to get geeky). When you encrust your art with it it's almost invisible! These shards are also super-flat meaning they lay down neatly on your surface. 

If you sprinkle this over your art you'll still see your art perfectly through it! 

HOW TO USE IT

Treat it as glitter, so use a varnish, PVA glue or gel medium. Sprinkle from a height to achieve an even covering. 

Can I mix it into Resin?

Yes! we recommend using Epoxy Resin.

BE CAREFUL!

Remember these are tiny shards of glass you are playing with! So please be sensible, wear gloves if you handle it, clean up after you, don't use it near food. You really don't want a glass splinter! If you have kids please supervise them and don't let them use this on their own. Use common sense please, we don't want any accidents.
